Isopropyl nitrite boils at 40 °C and therefore evaporates much faster than amyl or pentyl nitrite: an open bottle empties sooner and the smell is sharper. Isopropyl nitrite has been associated in the scientific literature with damage to the macula and with visual disturbances; no such association has been described for amyl or pentyl nitrite.
Safety. For technical use only. Do not inhale or swallow. Highly flammable liquid and vapour — keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Harmful if swallowed: do not induce vomiting, rinse the mouth, drink a little water and call 112 at once, or the Estonian Poison Information Centre on 16662. If it gets in the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. May cause skin irritation, avoid contact with skin. Do not use together with erectile dysfunction or blood pressure medicines. Keep the bottle closed and upright, cool and dark, out of the reach of children.
